Saving time and money with the KUKA RMC90 Robot
The Lawton Standard Co. added the KUKA (Keller und Knappich Augsburg) RMC90 robot to its expanding casting process equipment list back in 2022. This robot and the associated equipment are utilized to support pattern and mold making activities from Styrofoam pattern milling through the cutting of sand mold blocks. The robot is now housed at the C.A. Lawton Company in De Pere, Wisconsin. This continues to highlight Lawton’s continued efforts of expanding capacity and capability within the domestic foundry industry.
What the KUKA RMC90 can do for you
The KUKA RMC90 can process large Styrofoam blocks for one-time use patterns. But C.A. Lawton in De Pere already has machines that can do that. So we plan on putting the KUKA to use by cutting large preformed molding blocks.
This process will allow for direct preparation of the molds to be used for the casting process. It would create a one-time use mold up to 6′ x 6′ x 3′. It is a quick and precise mold well suited for emergency replacement and prototype applications.
How the KUKA RMC90 Robot came to De Pere
The Lawton Standard Co. first came across the KUKA RMC90 Robot at our former facility at QESC. The robot was eventually brought to the De Pere location earlier in 2024.
Engineers have been conducting test runs on the robot using Styrofoam molds to fine tune its capabilities. Engineers are now testing the robot on sand molding blocks. Besides adding to the versatility of the application, this allows for further refinement and assessment of the technology for use at other Lawton Standard sites.
The KUKA RMC90 also includes mold handling and dust collection systems. This helps in the safe and environmentally-friendly processing of Styrofoam and sand block molds.
Saving time and costs
The KUKA RMC90 robot is perfect for emergency replacement castings or one-off castings.
It helps to save time and pattern costs. It can rapidly prototype a mold for a casting you need quickly. It also is an economical alternative to permanent wood patterns, which tend to be much more expensive.
Lawton Standard commitment to innovation
Lawton Standard remains committed to innovation and the latest technology.
