De Pere, WI – Less than a year after The C.A. Lawton Co. (Calco) was awarded the Outstanding
Employee Campaign Award for a Medium-size Company by United Way for its significant employee involvement, the company is on pace for another full year of charitable activity. In addition to United Way, Calco contributes to charitable organizations including The Salvation Army, Toys for Tots, Habitat for Humanity, and the Bellin Run. Besides the significant charitable contributions, Calco believes there are benefits resulting from its participation, including creating an environment of teamwork and belonging, that contribute to a positive company culture. “Pulling together for a common cause that adds such great value to our community creates better unity in our workplace here at Calco. Programs like United Way share similar values that we want to maintain in our culture. Participation in these events helps to reinforce those values,” said Gloria Plog, human resources manager at Calco.
This year Calco has designated September as United Way campaign month with several scheduled fund-raising events, including company lunches and activities. The largest event, a 2- mile obstacle course competition, is scheduled for October 20 and includes Calco employees, family, and friends.
Additionally, in 2010 The C.A. Lawton Co. proudly honored one of its employees who earned the United Way award for Outstanding Employee Campaign Coordinator, which recognizes individuals that demonstrate extraordinary leadership, initiative and management of their company’s campaign. “Our participation in all of the charitable programs serves as a great campaign/fundraising tool by providing a benchmark for other local businesses to measure themselves against. If a tough business in a tough industry can rally such support, then there are a lot of places that can do better. Even in tough times there are those more in need than us,” added Alex Lawton, president and CEO of Calco.
