At The C.A. Lawton Co. (Calco), we are proud of the reputation our foundry has built over the last two centuries; a reputation for quality, on-time iron casting solutions alongside high-touch customer service.
In this series of blog posts, we will be highlighting the “Lawton Difference” and how Calco makes the difficult task of procuring castings easier for buyers. We accomplish this through integrated offerings, dedicated customer advocates, a culture of flexibility and urgency, and a focus on quality and on-time delivery. In this post, we’ll walk you through Calco’s on-site capabilities.
Through Calco’s single, Green Bay, Wisconsin manufacturing location, we provide a seamless integration of the following services:
Because of the integral role patterns play in the shape and accuracy of a casting and their contribution to iron integrity, Calco maintains a state-of-the-art pattern operation. Our design balances intimate knowledge of the casting process, annual volume, investment and material selection.
At Calco, castings can be produced from patterns made from many materials. The variety ranges from foam for single-use castings to different types of wood and urethane. The pattern material is selected based on the application and volume.
Calco’s Pattern-Making Capabilities
- Precision CNC foam, wood, and urethane patterns up to 150” square
- Full solid modeling and metal-flow simulation services
The production of castings and machined components have been Calco’s core business for five generations, and castings that provide the strength and design integrity for equipment in the most demanding applications are the centerpiece of our current product offering. Calco produces castings ranging from 400 to 20,000 lbs. in all types of grey and ductile iron. Our volumes by part number range from a single casting to 1,500 pieces annually.
Calco produces iron castings to strict ISO 9001:2008 quality standards, and attention to control ranges from careful selection of raw materials and maintenance of the very best melt practices to tight sand controls and documentation of processes and practices in the molding process.
To ensure quality control, Calco offers a wide range of internal machining capabilities. Our machining work is a critical piece of the value proposition we provide our customer and is a central element in our goal of simplifying the casting buying process. And with the Calco’s machine shop integrated into the production flow of the foundry, project lead times are reduced.
Our commitment to re-investment continues to broaden our capabilities and markets we serve.
In an effort to provide our customers with castings that meet and exceed requirements in terms of mechanical properties, Calco utilizes a heat treat partner to provide a full range of heat treat capabilities.
