Scott Arnold Memorial
The Scott Arnold Memorial celebrated its 11th annual outing on September 16, 2023. Scott Arnold is the late father of Emily Burnside. Emily works at our Minster facility. Scott passed away in 2012 from lung cancer. Emily and her family have spent the last 11 years remembering Scott with an annual golf outing. All the proceeds from each outing are donated to Wilson Hospice and a local family in need. Wilson Hospice was instrumental for Scott and his family in the last weeks of his life.
The Arnold family has donated over $14,000 to Wilson Hospice over the years and another $14,000 to local families going through hardship. Last year’s recipients, Ken and Jean Heath, started a Cancer Care Pack program to comfort cancer patients as they receive their treatments. The Arnolds and Heaths teamed up with Upper Valley Medical Center to create a logoed backpack to include useful items to help with care and comfort. Items include a backpack, a blanket, a water bottle, lotion, tissues, hard candy, a pen/pencil, an activity book, and an inspirational book. The Arnold family will continue to support this initiative by donating funds to make more Cancer Care Packs.
The Arnold family chose Bilareand Deb Zimmerman as the local recipients this year. Deb Zimmerman is the matriarch of the Zimmerman family located in Sidney, OH. The Zimmermans have remained a very close family to the Arnolds. The parents, Bill and Deb, were best friends with Scott and Chris Arnold. Their oldest son Bill Zimmerman Jr. was very good friends with Emily’s older brother, Andy throughout their adolescence. Their only daughter, Kate Miller (Zimmerman), was best friends with Emily throughout their childhood. Their youngest son, Bradley, is currently the principal at the school that Emily’s youngest daughter attends. All of their children, Bill Jr, Kate, Matthew, and Bradley, have all performed on stage with Emily at one point or another. These two families have been intertwined over the last 35 years or so. Deb Zimmerman was recently diagnosed and began treatment for colon cancer. The Arnold family was saddened to hear the news but knew there was no better family to support with this year’s fundraiser.
The 12th annual Scott Arnold Memorial will be held on Saturday, September 14th, 2024.
